FINDING THE RIGHT CLASP

FINDING THE RIGHT CLASP

There are so many types of clasps out there to choose from. I’m going to highlight some of my favorites and weigh the pros and cons of each!

First things First, if you don’t have any problems with your current clasp I wouldn't recommend replacing it, this advice is for those looking to replace their clasp, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” 🙂.

Your IDEAL clasp is largely determined by the chain/ pendant you are wearing, pairing a large heavy clasp with a light chain can cause a slew of problems down the line. The unnecessary weight can lead to stretching/breakage which will weaken the chain.

For thin delicate chains, I recommend a spring clasps.

Spring clasps come in a variety of sizes and they are extremely light weight. For many people this is the perfect clasp for that delicate chain, because the clasps is so light rarely do people have issues with the clasps swinging to the front (a problem no one likes to have). However, Spring Clasps are notoriously difficult to use, and notably one of the more frustrating clasps to use if you are not familiar with them, I do not recommend this clasp the elderly or anyone with mobility issues.

I do however recommend both Tear Drop clasps and Magnetic clasps for anyone that is having trouble operating their clasp.

The shape of the Tear drop clasps will guide you towards the lever as you go to hook/unhook the clasp, for some this is enough assistance. If you need more assistance, I recommend the magnetic clasp. They are stronger than people realize and highly practical.

Magnetic clasps are available in many different shapes and sizes to complement even the most unique of necklaces.

Honorable mention to one of my favorite kinds of clasp, most useful when you are layering multiple chain layers.

Are you always wearing the same 3 necklaces in a layered stack?

Then Stop with the constant fidgeting and detangling and replace your clasps with a multi-strand. The convivence is unparalleled, I have a stack of Four necklaces that I can take on and off in one fail swoop!

Any one of these clasps can be repaired, replaced, or provided at Slates Jewelers, your local family owned jewelry store. Stop by anytime and get a tailored recommendation just for you! We are here to serve our community with store fronts in Milledgeville and Eatonton Georgia.
